Fundamentals Migration: Sandbox to Production

FUNDAMENTALS MIGRATION: SANDBOX TO PRODUCTION

It’s considered a best practice to test and configure any software installation on the Salesforce platform in a sandbox before activating it in production. This gives users and admins time familiarize themselves with the product, and to configure the software for specific business needs prior to rolling it out for everyday use. With Fundamentals, there are some considerations to keep in mind before migrating your configuration to production.

  • Project Templates can not be directly migrated from sandbox to production via an outbound change set. Project Templates are data, while only metadata (fields, page layouts, etc) can be pushed up to a production environment using a change set. That means that any templates created in sandbox need to be:
    • Manually migrated by recreating the template in production or
    • Exported using Salesforce reports and imported to production using the Data Import Wizard or Data Loader tools
  • Standard Fundamentals fieldsets such as the Gantt view details tab cannot be migrated to production with a change set. Fieldsets will need to be reconfigured directly in the production environment.
  • Metadata created outside the standard Fundamentals defaults must be pushed to production using a change set.
  • Fundamentals must be installed in the production environment prior to deploying change sets or migrating data via data import wizard/data loader. The migration will fail if Fundamentals is not installed.
